The goal of this material

Play Chinese translation.

We hope that this material will help you learn about Chinese wood frame construction of the twelfth century. The centrepiece of this teaching tool is a kit of virtual model parts with which you can construct models of buildings in the official style. This kit is an AutoCAD file.

What you are looking at here is a set of supporting materials, including:

  • detailed instructions for design and construction,
  • information on extant Song buildings,
  • animations,
  • work by our students, both written reports and virtual models,
  • a glossary, and
  • a bibliography.
