The sample building

The virtual model kit included on the CD-ROM contains all the parts you need to build a small sample building. (See illustration.) Using the parameters listed on the previous page, we can describe the sample building like this:
  • ting tang type
  • four rafters deep, clear span, two columns, three bays wide
  • 6th grade

This building is the smallest and simplest ting tang allowed - it uses the fewest components - and is given as an example in the Yingzao fashi (juan 31).

The instructions we set out here are only a set of all those in the Yingzao fashi. We give only those that are applicable to our sample building.
