Chuzu an (1125), plan and details

Source: Liang (1984, 89)

These details show the difference between the intercolumnar bracket set (centre, labelled "intermediate set") and the columnar set (right, labelled "set on column"). Both have a pointed diagonal member in front, but only in the intercolumnar set does this belong to a ang (lever arm), which has the structural function of supporting a purlin. The pointed member in the columnar set is ornamental. This can also be seen in the Xian dian (front hall) of Shengmu miao.
