Xian dian (1168), corner of roof structure

Photo: Andrew Li

The roof structure is not symmetrical about the corner. The beams terminate in columnar bracket sets (i.e., sets that sit on, rather than between, columns). The long beam terminates in the second set from the corner (to the left in the photograph), while the short beam terminates in the first set from the corner (to the right). Notice that while the spacing of the bracket sets about the corner is symmetrical, the spacing of the columns is not.

The plaque says "Xian dian," and is centred in the back wall. Above it the ang (lever arm) extends to the middle purlin.
