Xian dian (1168), front elevation through gate

Photo: Andrew Li

The front elevation of the Xian dian (front hall). The rhythm of columns and bracket sets is clearly visible: a central bay with a smaller bay on both sides. Each column has a columnar bracket set; each bay has an intercolumnar set. The Shengmu dian (main hall) can be seen in the background, surrounded by bamboo scaffolding and plastic sheeting for renovation.
